General Questions
What is the student to teacher ratio?
Our standard lessons have a maximum class size of three students, baby lessons have a maximum of six parent & child pairs, semi-private and adult lessons have a maximum of two students to one teacher. Private lessons are one on one.
When will my child be water safe?
Nobody is ever 100% safe in
the water. Learning to swim is the best way to improve water safety, but
your child should never be left unattended in the water.
When will my child recieve a ribbon?
A student receives a ribbon once they comfortably master the goals listed for that level. Progress reports are done for the whole school periodically and can be done on request if you would like an update on your child’s progress.
My child recieved a ribbon. Do they need to switch classes?
There are two ribbons per stage and a total of 4 stages: Beginner,
Intermediate, Advanced, and Stroke. Once students receive
both of the ribbons in a level, they should move on to a class in the next
stage to keep the learning process moving forward. They should
stay in their current class until a spot can be found, but they will be
primarily reviewing skills that they have already mastered.
Can I talk to my child's teacher?
Unfortunately, there is no time
between classes to talk to the instructors. If you have a question for your instructor, you can write them a note and they will have a response for you the following week.
Can I request a specific teacher?
Of course! You can request a specific teacher, but we can’t guarantee that their schedule will not change. If you can’t find a spot with a teacher that has made a special connection with your swimmer, the front office can help you find someone with a style similar toyour preferred teacher.
Do you have a swim team?
While we do not have a swim team, we do offer hour long Pre-Comp classes that focus on endurance as well as technique. To enter this program, students must achieve a Stroke 1 ribbon.
Can I transfer my class to another time or day?
Yes, you can transfer your class to another time or day, subject to availability. Please contact our office to make the necessary arrangements.
How long do the classes last?
Each class lasts for 30 minutes, providing ample time for instruction and practice.
What are the different class levels?
We offer classes for various levels, including Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Stroke. Each level is designed to build on the skills learned in the previous level.
My baby is bored in baby swim; they are 2 years old—can they go to Beginner?
We love that your little one is enthusiastic! For children under 3, our baby swim classes are designed to provide the most appropriate and beneficial learning experience. Beginner classes are usually geared towards older kids, and the skill level might be too advanced for a 2-year-old. We'd be happy to chat with you and see if there are ways to make baby swim more engaging for your child. Just ask our instructors or front desk staff!
My student reached Level 2 of their stage; do they need a new class?
No need to switch classes! Levels within the same stage work together in the same class. Your child will move to a new class when they're ready to move up a stage.
When will my student be “water safe”?
We focus on building a strong foundation of water safety skills. "Water safe" means different things to different people, and we're committed to helping your child develop the confidence and skills they need in the water.
When will my student be proficient in all the strokes?
Every child progresses at their own pace, and we believe swimming is an art! We'll work with your child to gradually introduce and refine their strokes.
