Intermediate

Our intermediate students are working on lengthening swims, strengthening form and perfecting balance through a series of drills.

Intermediate 1

While learning proper kicking technique and efficient breathing, students will begin swimming the entire width of the pool. Undulation is reinforced through lengthened dolphin swims and ring retrieval without goggles is practiced for safety.

Skills required to be eligible for this level:

  • Students must be able to swim 3/4 width of the pool on front (no fins or assistance)
  • Students must swim 3/4 width of the pool on back (no fins or assistance)
  • Students must pick up rings in 3 1/2 ft. depth (no fins or assistance)

Intermediate 2

Because perfecting body position, balance, and proper streamline are the most important aspects required before beginning basic strokes, we pride ourselves on mastering these fundamental skills. Streamline drills, elementary backstroke, dolphin, and underwater swimming are utilized as a means to achieve this goal. Treading water promotes strength and safety.

Skills required to be eligible for this level:

  • Swim on their front (comfortably) the full width of the pool with two pup-ups, in a moderate streamline position
  • Swim on their back (comfortably) with arms tight against the body, with a gentle flutter kick near the surface
  • Pick up rings or swim a short distance without gogggles
  • Perform a moderate dolphin swim the width of the pool
