Beginner
Our main focus of the beginner levels is to get the children comfortable and happy in the water, while emphasizing breath control, balance, and rythmatic-independent breathing.
Beginner 1
Focus on breath control for longer periods of time with short swims to a platform. Balance is introduced using back floats and safety is practiced with sit jumps from and to the wall.
Skills required to be eligible for this level:
- A Beginner One student is a child who is new to our school and does not yet know how to swim.
Beginner 2
This level focuses on one of the most crucial skills of swimming: independent breathing. Also included are back swims, ring retrieval from the bottom of the pool, and balance drills such as dolphin.
Skills required to be eligible for this level:
- Students must swim 4-6 feet with their face in the water comfortably and happily, without floatation devices or teacher assistance Float on back (assisted)
Beginner 3
This is the level in which students are gradually challenged with the task of swimming without flippers. Students will also begin swimming greater distances and practice independent ring retrieval.
Skills required to be eligible for this level:
- Students must be able to consistently and comfortably pop up (unassisted, with fins) swimming half way across the pool
- Back kicks (assisted, with fins)
- back floats (unassisted)
- Sit jump from and back to the wall (unassisted, with fins)
- Pick up rings in 3 ft. depth (assisted, with fins)
